Rainout and Makeup game policy

Rain Policy

If severe inclement weather is threatening the safety of the game, the game will be suspended or canceled by a designated member of the board. In the event this occurs, the following will happen:

  • Coaches will be informed of the cancellation by a member of the Board of Directors.
  • A Rain Delay / Cancellation notice will be posted on the League’s website (amesburylittleleague.org), our Facebook page, and a league-wide email will be sent.
  • Coaches should ensure that their players/parents are aware of the postponement.
If in the process of playing a game inclement weather is threatening, it is at the discretion of the coaches in a T-ball, A or AA game, the umpire and the coaches in an AAA game, and the MVUA umpire in a majors game to decide whether to continue, suspend or conclude the game.

For T-ball through AAA, if a board member is present and not a manager or coach of one of the two teams, that board member should take responsibility for the decision as whether to continue or stop play. Play must be stopped and may not resume until 20 minutes following the last lightning strike or rumble of thunder.

Makeup Policy

If the League has canceled a game the following will occur:
  • For T-ball, A or AA, makeups for rainouts are scheduled for the following Sunday or on a date an appropriate field is not otherwise scheduled.
    • Note:T-Ball, SingleA and AA coaches are allowed to make alternative arrangements.
  • For AAA & Majors ONLY – Teams will play makeup games when assigned by the Divisional Coordinators.
    • AAA: Makeups will be scheduled immediately on the next night available. Teams should be prepared to play within the next night or two from the rainout, and callups will be used as needed.
    • Majors: Makeups will be scheduled immediately on the next night available. Teams should be prepared to play within the next night or two from the rainout, and callups will be used as needed.

Tie games halted due to weather, curfew, or light failure shall be resumed from the exact point at which they were halted in the original game. It can be completed preceding the next scheduled game between the same teams. A player may not pitch in more than one game in a day.

  • Note: For the resumed game only, the pitch counts of the players who were the current pitchers when the game was suspended shall return to zero. (Makeups may result in some three-game weeks.)
